About Chico Stanford
I have formally been training dogs for over 35 years now. My passion began as a youth (informally), with my first dog which was a collie. Some of the highlights of my training career are listed below:
1970’s and 1980’s – Trained Dobermans in personal protection and obedience trained and titled (AKC) Rottweilers.
1989 – Began my Schutzhund Training career during this year.
1990 – Placed first and second numerous times in AKC Obedience Trials with both Rottweilers and German Shepherds. To see a few photo's of my AKC Obedience Training results.
- I trained my Rottweiler Maximillion von Nero from AKC Novice to AKC Utility Obedience Title(s) in ten (10) shows. Novice title in 3 shows; AKC CDX title in 3 shows and AKC Utility in 4 shows.
- Titled four (4) different Rottweilers and one (1) German Shepherd in AKC Obedience, including two (2) dogs to UD.
- I received the distinguished AKC Dog World Award with my female Rottweiler Roxanne von Stan. We obtained three consecutive scores of: 196, 196 ½ and 196, out of a maximum score of 200, under three different judges.
- I competed with both Maximillion and Roxanne at the Gaines Eastern Region All-Breed Championship. Both my dogs were two of the youngest dogs entered. Maximillion averaged a 195 while Roxanne averaged a score of 196 out of 200 points.
- Roxanne von Stan and I won the Rottweiler Specialty Open CDX in Allentown, PA.
1992 – Obtained my first BH with Roxanne von Stan.
1993 – Trained and handled the top Utility Rottweiler in the United States.
- Trained two (2) students and their dogs to obtain the elusive AKC Dog World Award.
- Trained the handler and one of the first female Cane Corso’s to obtain their BH in the United States.
1994-1997 Due to a life threatening injury my training was hampered for these three years.
1998- Won the World Schutzhund League Championship in New Hampshire
1998 - 4th place Northeast Regionals.
1998 - Qualified for the Nationals.
1999 - 3rd place Northeast Regionals.
1999 - Then 45 days later, 25th place (out of 73 dogs entered) 1999 USA National Championship 100-90-85 (275).
2001 - 23rd place (out of 79 dogs entered) USA National Championship had one of the most energetic obedience performances 95-92-87-(274).
2002 - 45th out of 141 competitors at the UScA GSD Nationals.
2003 - North East Regional (99 pt. track, High score in tracking).
2003 - UScA GSD Nationals.
2004 - 19th (out of 47 dogs entered) North American Championship.
2004 - 13th AWDF 2004.
2004 - 13th DVG National Championship (100 pt. track).
2004 - 5th New England Regional (99 pt. track).
2004 - 9th at USA National Championship with scores of (98-93-93) 284
2005 - 11th North American Championship
2005 - 6th FH Championship
2005 - 5th WDA World qualifer
2005 - 68th WUSV Haghuenau, France
2005 - 6th WUSV USA team member
2006 - I qualified and showed 2 dogs at the 2006 USA Nationals Championship
placing 22nd and 25th respectively (out of 63 dogs entered). Both dogs V’d in tracking with one dog owner-handler trained.
2006 18th AWDF Championship

2006 22nd USA National Championship 96 -84 -91(271) with a V (96)
2007 - I did not have a dog to compete with at this time. Egon passed away 24 August 2007 and Iwan passed away on 13 August 2007.
2008 - Competed at the 2008 New England Regional Schutzhund Championship.
2008 - Competed at the UScA GSD Schutzhund Nationals.
2009 - Competed in Feb 2009 at the Southeastern Regional Schutzhund Championship. High Auslander.
2009 - Competed in March 2009 at the O.G. Volmarstein SchH Club Trial.
2009 - Competed in September 2009 at the Northeast Regional Schutzhund Championship. Highest Obedience Score in the Trial.
2009 - Competed in November 2009 at the UScA GSD National Schutzhund Championship. Highest Obedience Score in the Trial -98V.
2010 - Competed in March 2010 at the Alpha K-9 Schutzhund Club Trial.
2010 - Competed in May 2010 at the GSDCA-WDA Nationals/World Qualifier.
Schutzhund specific dog training accomplishments:
- Titled five (5) dogs from puppies to Schutzhund 3 titles (Handler Owner Trained).
- Titled eight (8) dogs to FH1.
- Titled four (4) dogs to FH2.
- Handled six (6) dogs to AD.
- Competed nine (9) times at the Nationals. Qualified twelve (12) times.
- Competed at the WUSV.
- Certified Schutzhund USA Helper and meets the requirements to become a judge in both AKC and Schutzhund.
I have also taught foundation tracking to several Search and Rescue teams (handler/dog).
The challenge of training all of my dogs, will always be appreciated. The honor of saying Fuß (foos) to them will never be taken for granted nor forgotten!

1998 Won the World Schutzhund League Championship in New Hampshire: First schutzhund III cash award event in America.

I titled Zamb BH, FH 100, SchH1, Sch2, FH2, AD and KKL2 as well as a SchH3 in 5 months. SchH1 100-90-90(280) SchH2 100- 91-93-(284) SchH3 97-93-86 (276) SchH3 99-96-95 (290V) HOT*. 4x Schutzhund III by the age of 3 yrs and 10 months old. Zamb was one of the youngest dogs at the
2003 USA National Championship where he placed 39th (out of 69 dogs entered).

with a V (97) points in tracking. Egon was prepared for his FH2 before his untimely death in August 2007. His spirit lives on in his last litter with Gangster and Gina.

Iwo vom Basintenburg
I purchased Iwo when he was 5 years old, after he had bitten his female handler several times because he did not have a working relationship with her. I trained Iwo to a FH 1 obtaining the score of 95 at the Long Island Schutzhund Club Trial. I also did his breed survey with him where he received a KKl2 for life. We qualified for the 2002 Nationals with scores of 98-82-98= 278 High in Trial at the Johann Platt Schutzhund Club Trial. Iwo and I placed 45th (out of 141 dogs entered) at the 2002 Nationals in Gaston, AL 95-87-87= 269
Iwan von Zweibruggen
"Great dogs are not often on the podium, sometimes they are in someone’s backyard."
I purchased Iwan at the age of 5. At that time, Iwan had only been shown 3 times SchH I, II, III (scores 70-88-96/254). Myself and Iwan went on to place 9th at the 2004 Nationals ( FH (93), and other numerous V-rated scores (286, 291) and placed 5th at the WDA World Qualifier, WUSV team member 2005. Myself and Iwan were members of the World Championship team in 2005 and exhibited the most exciting protection routine (click on Iwan's name to see video of this). Iwan was 14x SchH III and never failed a trial when I handled him.
